A Note to Parents
I encourage you to monitor your child's grades closely throughout the semester, and to contact me early with any concerns. I am happy to sit down with you to discuss how we can work together to help your child succeed! Please consider the following: I know it is easier to let your student handle their schooling because they are almost adults, but until they turn 18, their education is partially your responsibility. When a parent is involved, it makes it 100% easier for a child to succeed. However, overly involved parents can negate the benefits. Your students are almost adults! To help them prepare for college, I encourage them to be independent and advocate for themselves. A few of my policies as they relate to you:
- Meetings are by appointment only. You must also make an appointment with me if you wish to observe your child's class.
- If you ask me for extra credit for your child, the answer will be no.
- Email is the best way to contact me.
- Students must be present everyday. If they do have to miss school, it must be for an excused reason. I need to see evidence that it is an excused absence in order to allow your child to makeup missed work.
